Dr Geoff Goodwin visits Presidency University in Kolkata, India

Date

In late September, Dr Geoff Goodwin, Co-Director of the Centre for Global Development, visited Presidency University in Kolkata as part of a POLIS trip to India. He was joined by Dr Owain Williams, Associate Professor of Global Political Economy and Health, who is the Director of Internationalisation at POLIS and has been overseeing efforts to build long-term relationships between POLIS and universities in the Global South.

At Presidency, Geoff gave a class on Polanyian political economy and a lecture on his research on water politics in Ecuador, linking it to recent developments in India. Along with Owain, he also met representatives of various departments at Presidency to discuss options for collaboration with POLIS.

Geoff and Owain are very grateful to everyone at Presidency University for welcoming them, and especially Dr Zaad Mahmood, Associator Professor in the Department of Political Science, for organising the visit and being such a fantastic host.

Geoff and Zaad are now exploring options for teaching and research collaboration, especially in the field of global political economy.
