Please join us for our next RiDNet brownbag career development workshop on 'Applying for a Postdoc/Fellowship'. We will host Ruth Winden & Emma Spary from Organisational Development & Professional Learning (OD&PL) at Leeds. Both Ruth & Emma are career professionals specialising in career development, aiming to help researchers manage their careers strategically, with skill and confidence, across all employment sectors – from academia, industry, not-for-profits to start-ups and portfolio careers. They will first provide an overview of different research funding and career planning, positioning and selling yourself within applications, and what's needed to apply for a fellowship position. This will be followed by Dr Uche Okpara for a case study presentation. Dr Uche Okpara is a UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellow at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), University of Greenwich, and is an expert in climate security and development with diverse research interests around a central theme of nature-society nexus. Before joining NRI, he taught and conducted research at both the University of Leeds and the University of Nigeria.

This event is structured to help PGRs who are considering careers in research within academia. Ruth and Emma will begin by giving an overview career planning & how to position yourself in the academic job market and in applications. This will be followed by a case study by Dr Okpara who will talk through his experience in applying for postdocs and fellowship positions, what is needed in these applications, and how to develop your scholarly identity. This will be followed by a Q&A session, so please do come with questions, or pre-submit questions and comments in the registration form below.
