Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies (SPLAS) and The Centre for Global Development (CGD) are delighted to welcome renowned Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho to the University of Leeds on Friday 1st December 2017. Kleber will take part in a workshop entitled Film, Social Critique and Political Dissent.
The workshop will include a screening and commentary of Kleber's short film Recife Frio (Cold Recife) a tongue-in-cheek but deeply critical depiction of what would happen if his tropical home city was hit by a meteor and suddenly went cold, as well as discussion of the duty and ability of World Cinema filmmakers to challenge the socio-political status quo.
