The Centre for Global Development (CGD) and Centre for African Studies (LUCAS) are delighted to host the launch of Dr Ben Radley's book Disrupted Development in the Congo: The Fragile Foundations of the African Mining Consensus (Oxford University Press). In the book, Dr Radley details how foreign corporations have been prone to mismanagement, inefficiencies, and rent-seeking, and implicated in fuelling conflict and violence. He also documents how structural impediments to the transformative effects of mining industrialization in low-income African countries occur irrespective of ownership and management structures. This event will involve a brief overview of the book by Dr Radley followed by comments by Professor Ray Bush and Q&A from the audience. The event information is as follows
